This collection was created in April 2013 at the request of Urban Outfitters for their pop-up shops in Los Angeles and New York City.
The fabrics come from Africa, Holland, China, and unknown places. The tags that run along the sides of the fabric and that contain place of origin and style number have been cut and placed directly into the work. Each 30″ x 30″ piece also contains an actual paper sign from a Johannesburg intersection that advertises the day’s newspaper headline. These advertisements were retrieved between January and March 2008. They are pasted onto the fabric in a style that elicits notions of flyers pasted to city walls: the method the everyman uses to appropriate public space.
